Traces of the Day is an EP I recorded and released in back in 2000. The original EP was made up of 4 tracks that I recorded with a full band (guitar, piano, bass, & drums). It was my first CD and I think I only pressed about 100 of them. In the spirit of getting stuff out there, I've recently decided I wanted to transfer Traces from tape to digital format and get it out to more folks.
In recent months, I've been pleasantly surprised to receive messages from peeps who like that collection of songs and want to know where they can be found. After all this time! That does my heart a world of good!
In addition to getting Traces transferred from tape to digital, I was planning to add extra bells and whistles just to beef the sound up even further: backing vocals and organs and mimes and tigers. Then I decided for the sake of time, my sanity and budget, I would release it just as it was. I was already in the midst of mixing and putting the final touches on my first full length album entitled Enough (due October 2010). We did re mix and re master Traces though, which step up the quality of the sound for those of you who have no clue what those terms mean. I also got to edit out little things that have always bugged me, but for the most part I remained true to the original recordings.
I also thought folks might like to hear some even earlier previously unreleased versions of said songs where I recorded them with just piano and vocals. In a lot of ways, I like these striped down versions even more. They show a side of me rarely seen that I think people will appreciate. I've decided to include these on the Traces of the Day: Special Edition EP making a total of eight tracks. The piano/vocal recordings of Little Wing and Less Than Nothing were my first time recording my own material in the studio. I always love to hear the early versions of songs I like. How often do we get to do that? That being said, I think the piano/vocal versions are strong enough to stand on their own. They are definitely unique interpretations of the songs. I think you'll enjoy them and I can't wait for everyone to hear them.
