I’ve been having such great conversations with other singers lately. Why and how we sing. When we started or restarted. Who encouraged us and who didn’t.
Singing is the soul’s expression. The act of singing does ignite something within us. It certainly does that for me.
I think that’s why it’s so hard when we stop singing and go silent for any length of time. We lose hope. We go silent. We get depressed and don’t understand why.
We have so many reasons we stop singing: an unsupportive spouse, our parents think it’s impractical, or we simply get burned out from trying so hard.
This is what I loved about singer stories from my recent podcasts with Celia Chavez and Erica Canales. Hearing about how both singers stepped away from music for ten years and then organically, yet intentionally returned to it showed just how much a part of one's soul this talent is.
Sometimes you do have to step away to get that fresh perspective, so that when you return to that thing you love you realize for yourself how undeniable that part of you is.
These singers are in such a solid place where music is so front and center in their lives that no one can tell them they can’t or shouldn’t do it.
It took that distance from singing to create that commitment, conviction, and connection.
