Getting out of our own way.

So many of us shoot ourselves in the foot by not doing this. I’ve been there. Maybe I didn’t follow up on that lead because that person seemed kind of full of it and I didn’t think it was gonna go anywhere anyway.

Maybe I’m right and it won’t go anywhere. But what if it does? Showing up for ourselves can be such a simple act on our part. Sending that email. Making that phone call. Submitting that application. If that’s the least we can do, then why not?

For some of us it can feel like a huge deal to extend ourselves and be vulnerable in that way. We work overtime to protect our dignity. If we don’t hear back, we feel terrible, and we’re imagining all the reasons why no one’s getting back to us.

But it’s really those seemingly small things we do to reach out and take the next step that are the building blocks to creating the life we want.

We have to imagine what’s on the other side of feeling all those uncomfortable feelings.

We have to make things happen and just get on that road. Take action. Try things. Release that messy version. Follow through.

Listen to this week’s amazing interview with Windy Wagner (Joe Walsh, KD Lang, Selena Gomez) on The Working Singer Podcast. So much sage advice.
